The Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife on Tuesday 05 January 2021 received a consignment of biodiversity conservation equipments from the United Nations Development Program Cameroon. This was done with the framework of the Integrated Transboundary Project of the Conservation of Biodiversity in the Congo Basins of of the Republic of Cameroon (TRIDOM II).
The ceremony to officially transfer the equipment that took place at the esplanade of the Ministry of Forestry of Wildlife was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Joseph Njongwe representing the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Jules Doret Ndongo in the presence of the Deputy Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Cameroon Ba Allasane.
The high level technical equipments made of 15 items has a total value of 141 101 USD, some 77 464 476 CFA shall be used to relaunch the activities preview for the project, reinforces the sustainable conservation of biodiversity in the TRIDOM space as well as fight against poaching.
Speaking during the ceremony the Deputy Resident Representative Ba Allasane said the acquisition of the material and equipment is part of the measures taken to make the project operational as well as enable the biodiversity conservation services to fully play their role.
While acknowledging the good gesture of the United Nations Development Program, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife said the transfer of the equipment demonstrate government’s will to reinforce the conservation and valorization of wildlife and fauna resources while improving the working conditions of State personnel.
The Secretary General urged the beneficiaries to managed the equipment in order to achieve the expected results which is to reinforce surveillance and planning. He called on the beneficiaries which are ; the Dja Reserve, the Ngoyla Fauna Reserve, the Operational Unit of Ngoyla-Mintom, the National Park of Boumba-Bek, the National Park of Nki, and the Gorilla sanctuary of Mengame to use the equipments to attain the the objectives of the TRIDOM project tie on to the national and international stakes and challenges which must be satisfied.
It should be recalled the Integrated Trans boundary Project of the Conservation of Biodiversity in the Basins of the Republic of Cameroon (TRIDOM II- Tri National Dja Reserve in Cameroon, Odzala in Congo and Minkebe in Gabon ) was put in place in December 2017 after the project document was signed between the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife and the United Nations Development Program.
The objectives of the project administered by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife and supported by the United Nations Development Program and the Global Environment Fund are to; reinforce the governance capacities of protected areas by insisting on follow-up, improve the management of Protect Areas by emphasizing important global species through national and local institutions, reduce the pressure of poaching and traffic of threatened wildlife species on the project site and manage knowledge and more particular local know-how.
