The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare has Launched a 16 day activism campaign against gender based violence.
The campaign was Launched Monday November 23, 2020.
The campaign is termed “Namibia Unite to Collectively Prevent and Respond to Gender Based Violence, GBV.”
The awareness campaign aims at amplifying efforts to combat the various unfortunate cases of violence recorded through out the year.
The Regional Governor of the Khomas Region, Laura Veendapi McLeod-Katjirua publicly addressed the issue on Monday during the campaign Launch.
The Governor stated that the rate of fermicide is disconnecting and urgently requires serious action.
To her, around 70% of women in the nation suffer some form of violence from their intimate partners.
“As we launch the 16 days campaign, we hope they will create the needed awareness of the violence women, girls and boys undergo” the Governor noted.
The GBV in Namibia recently attracted International concerned, but the Government is leaving no stone unturned in reversing the trend that pushed women to protest in early October 2020.
